June 30, 2021 — Mask Wearing

Superintendent's Message Regarding Mask Wearing

Greetings Lawrence Families,

The Lawrence School District Safe Return Plan for the 2021-2022 school year states that we will follow NJ law, CDC guidelines, NJ Department of Education and NJ Department of Health guidelines and consult with the Lawrence Health Department when making decisions about health-related concerns.

On Monday, Governor Murphy announced that in September there would be no state mandate requiring students in school to wear masks, which means there is no longer a law in place requiring masks in New Jersey public schools.

Thus, with the elimination of the law coupled with current guidelines, and the fact that Mercer County Covid Activity Level is in the LOW range, it appears that wearing masks will be optional in our schools as we begin in September. Anyone who wants to wear a mask will still be able to do so. We still will require that those who show signs of illness remain at home until they are no longer symptomatic.

Please know as we go through the summer and monitor conditions, or if health guidance shifts, we may need to alter our plans and require masks.

Enjoy your summer and be well.

Respectfully,

Dr. Ross Kasun
Superintendent of Schools
