On August 25, Slackwood School principal Jeanne Muzi, joined by LTEF and LTPS Board members and staff, cut the ceremonial ribbon officially opening the new Library Media Zone and STEAM Center! LTEF (Lawrence Township Education Foundation), along with partner Bristol Myers Squibb, funded the transformation of the lower level at Slackwood. The space provides students with an open and flexible learning environment to immerse themselves in the thinking competencies 21st century learners require.

One half of the floor is designated the Library Media Zone which contains the book collection, a new interactive Promethean Board, creative seating options and research necessities including laptops and iPads.

The new library zone will be able to accommodate multiple classes for lessons and projects as well as visitors for assemblies and programs.

The other side of the space is the Slackwood STEAM Center, which is dedicated to exploration and discovery within Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math. The STEAM Center is designed to strengthen Slackwood’s students’ critical and creative thinking skills and empower students to problem solve.

The flexibility of the space will allow rotating projects and initiatives including a Makerspace, SW Coding Company, Video Studio, STEM Challenges, Creation Station and QRS (Quiet Reflection Space). It will accommodate different classes at different times throughout the day and can also be used for special events with families and the community.
