Nine members of the Lawrence High School (LHS) National History Day (NHD) Club participated in the New Jersey State History Day competition on Saturday, May 4 at William Paterson University. Four members qualified for the national competition to be held on the campus of the University of Maryland, June 9-13. Congratulations to:
Adithi Ponakampalli and Miduna Rishindran, "Clara Louise Maass: A Tragic Death Leads to Medical Triumph" (Senior Group Exhibit).
Amritha Sypereddi and Dessy Dusichka, "New Jersey's 'Glowing' Women: The Triumph and Tragedy of the Radium Girls" (Senior Group Website). In addition to qualifying for Nationals, Amritha and Dessy's project received the New Jersey State Historical Commission's award for the best New Jersey topic. The girls were also recently presented with an award certificate from the League of Historical Societies of New Jersey for their project.
Amritha and Dessy will be taking over the leadership of the NHD Club at LHS next year to replace graduating seniors, Cassidy Stoneback and Anusha Aggarwal.
