LTPS Appoints Dr. Fischer as Director of School Counseling and Student Supports

We’re excited to share that Dr. Alyson Fischer, Principal of Lawrence Intermediate School, was officially board approved on June 11 to serve as the district’s new Director of School Counseling and Student Supports, effective July 1!

Dr. Fischer is entering her 14th year as an administrator in Lawrence Township Public Schools and brings a wealth of experience, vision, and heart to this district-wide leadership role. Throughout her career, she has been unwavering in her commitment to advancing student well-being, supporting families, and fostering inclusive, positive school cultures.

During her six years as Principal of LIS, Dr. Fischer led the school through the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic and launched impactful initiatives such as a Character Counts house system, expanded 4th grade transition supports, new curricular programs in Math and ELA, student-led restorative practices, and a strengthened focus on mental health.

She also served as Assistant Principal at Lawrence High School and the district’s Director of Health, PE, and Athletics—helping launch Challenge Day, peer tutoring programs, after-school wellness opportunities, and a high school mental health committee. Dr. Fischer has also been a voice for equity and culturally responsive teaching throughout LTPS.

We are proud to have Dr. Fischer continuing her leadership journey with us and look forward to all she will accomplish in this new role. Please join us in congratulating her!
