Dear Parents and Guardians,
Your child is about to embark on their second grade school year. I am Mrs. Pacuta, and I will be your child’s second grade teacher at Ben Franklin. This year, we will be learning many new and exciting things. Here is a glimpse of what is in store:
Reading is a big part of our day! The students will be reading in leveled groups and as a whole group with differentiated activities. The writing component emphasizes on: capitalization, punctuation, nouns, pronouns, verbs, and adjectives. Once accomplished, we will be moving on to writing informative, narrative, and opinion pieces. In math, we will be focusing on skills like money, addition, subtraction, measurement, and telling time. I hope to seek out the inner explorer in everyone when we dive into our science units. This will include topics such as the life cycle of a butterfly, shorelines, balancing and weighing, and the sun, moon and earth. In social studies we will learn about citizenship, maps and globes and the history of Lawrence.
Family participation is welcome to share personal experiences to related topics with our class! I am looking forward to learning and growing with your child. Together as a team, we begin this exciting new school year!
What is needed for the first day of school?
1. A smile!
2. A dismissal note -specify your child's dismissal and send it with your child on the first day of school. We need it to help get your child home safely.
3. A healthy snack (this is needed daily)
4. A Lunch (if your child is not receiving a school lunch)
