The purpose of this course is introduce students to the major concepts and tools for collecting, analyzing, and drawing conclusions from data. Students will explore data, observing patterns and departures from patterns. They will plan studies, deciding what and how to measure. They will be able to predict patterns by producing models using probability theory and simulation with calculators and computers. Finally, students will be able to draw inferences from data and make probability statements about how confident they are about their conclusion.
Important components of the class include the use of technology, projects, cooperative group problem-solving and writing. This will allow the student to build inter-disciplinary connections with other subjects and with the world outside of the classroom.
