Ms. Linda Mithaug has assumed the position of Director of Student Services at Lawrence Township Public Schools. Prior to coming to Lawrence Township, Ms. Mithaug was previously the Director of Pupil Services for the Montclair Public School District, where she was responsible for supervising the special education programs, nurses and student assistance counselors. Ms. Mithaug earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Cornell University, Administration and Supervision Certification from Montclair State University, and a Masters of Arts from Teachers College, Columbia University. This is Ms. Mithaug’s third position as Director of Student Services, having served previously in the roles of special education teacher, LDT-C child study team member and special education supervisor in Bloomfield Public Schools. Ms. Mithaug's backgorund also inscludes administrative oversight and program development.
In addition to providing support for staff members, Ms. Mithaug is deeply committed to developing strong partnerships between parents, community members and the school district in order to provide the best outcomes for students requiring special education services. She is passionate about developing a continuum of programs for a students in their home district and works closely with central office and building administrators to align district resources.

Michele attended Ithaca College where she received a BS for Therapeutic and Recreation Services and is nationally certified as a Therapeutic Recreation Specialist. In addition, she attended William Paterson’s graduate teaching program where she earned her Teacher of the Handicapped Certification. Thereafter, she attended The College of NJ for her Masters of Education in Educational Leadership where she earned her Principal and Supervisor certification. Prior to Lawrence, Michele was a Supervisor of Special Services for Union Township School District in Hunterdon County for 2 ½ years. Prior to that she was a special education teacher for 7 years in Hillsborough School District, prior to that she taught 2 years in a private school for special education students, and finally prior to that she was a recreation therapist in a hospital and private school setting.

Prior to working in education, Heidi was a clinical social worker working in the mental health field. While in practice, she provided a high degree of clinical services to school age children. It was at this point that she discovered that more preventative measures and better detection of emerging mental health conditions needed to be addressed. In partnership with the mental health agency in which she was employed, she wrote a grant to provide evaluation and clinical counseling services in the school setting. The program was very successful in meeting the needs of the most vulnerable students and as a result, Heidi’s career in education had begun. Heidi has developed in district programming for students with significant behavioral challenges at all levels. After a few years of program development and child study team experience, Heidi decided to pursue more traditional professional training in education, and completed a certificate in Educational Administration and Leadership. Her combined experiences have allowed Heidi to develop programming opportunities for students with a wide range of disabilities. Her current interest is in widening programs for transitioning students and preparing them with 21st century skills that facilitate a meaningful transition into adulthood.
